World Letters was created to spark curiosity, celebrate storytelling and help children discover more of the world around them.

The story behind world letters

World Letters began with two sisters and a simple idea: what if the excitement of discovering a new place could arrive in the mailbox?

Inspired by a love of travel, storytelling and the curiosity children naturally bring to the world, World Letters was created to help families explore different countries, cultures and traditions together.

The first World Letters collection, Elsewhere, follows sisters Aria and Mimsy as they explore different countries, cultures and traditions from around the world. Based on real places and inspired in part by my own two daughters, their stories celebrate curiosity, connection and the many different ways children experience the world.

Why letters?

In a world of notifications, screens and endless scrolling, there is something quietly special about finding a letter in the mailbox, one addressed just to you.

World Letters was created to capture the excitement of that moment and turn it into an invitation to explore somewhere new. Every destination in the collection is a real place, brought to life through storytelling and illustration, and chosen because it has a story worth telling.

Each letter is a complete adventure, so there is no right place to start. Children can jump into the collection at any point, discovering a new country, culture or tradition with every delivery.

Designed to be kept, shared and revisited, the letters become a growing collection of stories that spark conversations, inspire curiosity and encourage children to look beyond their own backyard.

Meet the creators

World Letters is a small family business created by my husband Evan and me, inspired by a shared love of travel, storytelling and helping children discover the world.

I’m Tatyana Leonov, an award-winning travel writer whose work has appeared in BBC Travel, Lonely Planet, Traveller, Escape and Family Travel. Every destination featured in the collection is somewhere I have personally travelled, drawing on real experiences, places and cultures to shape each adventure.

Behind the scenes, Evan helps bring World Letters to life. From planning and operations to the countless details involved in running a small business, he’s the person helping turn ideas into reality.

The beautiful illustrations are created by Helen Ayle, whose distinctive artistic style transforms each story into a richly imagined adventure and helps bring Aria and Mimsy’s journeys to life.
